Megumi Shauna Arai

Bio: Megumi is half Japanese and Jewish and grew up between the Pacific Northwest and Tokyo. She studied photography at Tisch School of the Arts, Bennington College, and Photographic Center Northwest. As a Fine Art Photographer she creates imagery about closeness and farness, boundaries and lack there of. She is interested in biracial identity, impermanence and the soft underbelly people rarely show. She strives to create work that strips away the walls we use to protect ourselves.

Artist Statement: As a Commercial Photographer her clients include AFAR Media, Seattle Art Museum, Baby&Co and Brick Lane Records. She has had several shows in Seattle, including work at Cairo, Joe Bar, Vermillion and Hedreen Gallery, and has been published by NUDEzine, Current Obsession and Craft & Culture. She will be represented on the upcoming Vignettes Collection and is planning a solo show with Vignettes this year. She is currently working on a project entitled Hand History that planning to be her first book.
